Welcome to our Botox FAQs! We know there’s a lot to consider before deciding on a treatment, and we’re here to answer your most common questions. Whether you’re curious about how long Botox lasts, what to do before your appointment, or which wrinkle relaxer is right for you, we’ve got the answers you need. At Ventura Coast Med Spa, we pride ourselves on delivering natural, beautiful results while keeping things simple, safe, and comfortable. So, sit back, relax, and let’s clear up everything you want to know about Botox!
How long does Botox last?
On average, a Botox treatment lasts 3-4 months, but there are a variety of factors that contribute to the longevity of your Botox results. A very active person with a fast metabolism may burn through the Botox a bit quicker, likely achieving 3 months of results. Conversely, a person with a slower metabolism is likely to enjoy 4 months of results, and sometimes even longer!
Also, in the Botox world, we like to say “dosage equals duration”. Higher doses of Botox will stop more of your muscle movement and take longer to break down. While fads like “baby Botox” and “microdosing” may come and go, the best way to ensure your results will last is to listen to your provider’s recommendations and don’t skimp on the dose!
Is Botox safe?
Yes! Botox has been FDA-approved since 2002. It is one of the most extensively studied medications and is now approved for many cosmetic and medical uses, including reducing wrinkles, excess sweating, Botox for migraines, jaw pain, overactive bladder, and more! In the hands of an experienced provider, complications from Botox injections are very rare.
Will forehead Botox make me look fake?
No! If you want to get rid of forehead wrinkles but you still want a natural, undetectable result, we can deliver. Your provider will tailor your Botox dose to your unique anatomy and your specific treatment goals. For the most natural outcomes, we recommend treating 3 areas: the forehead, frown lines, and crows feet lines around the eyes to create a balanced result. If you treat only one area, the wrinkles left in the other untreated areas may be more obvious! Choose a provider you trust and follow their dosing recommendations.
What is the best Wrinkle Relaxer?
The best wrinkle relaxer brand is the one that your trusted provider recommends for you! There are multiple different options when it comes to tox, and it can be overwhelming to choose the best one. Here at Ventura Coast Med Spa, we offer 3 options: Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau. While they all work similarly, they each have subtle molecular differences that make them behave just differently enough to be ideal for certain situations. Botox is the most extensively studied and gives a predictable result, especially with more medical treatments like the masseter muscles for TMJ pain, trap tox for shoulder tension, or Botox for excess sweating.
Dysport has a very tight hold and works well for strong, bulky muscles, also providing more of a “frozen” look that some patients desire. Jeuveau typically kicks in quickest and is an extremely precise toxin, making it perfect for advanced treatment areas such as the small, intricate muscles around the mouth. Each brand of tox has its strengths, and we love them all so much! During your consultation, your provider will listen to your concerns and recommend the brand that will best help you achieve your desired aesthetic outcomes.
What should I do before my Botox appointment?
Before your Botox appointment, there are a few things you can do to make your treatment a smooth experience. First, avoid alcohol and other blood thinning agents like NSAIDs, turmeric, and fish oil for 2-3 days before your appointment. This reduces the likelihood of bruising after injections. Arrive to your appointment with a cleanly washed, makeup-free face to limit infection risk. Eat a hearty meal before arriving for your appointment. And get excited for your amazing wrinkle relaxer results to kick in!
What is recommended after a Botox appointment?
After your Botox injections, you will need to avoid exercise and sweating for at least 24 hours. We also recommend waiting at least 24 hours to apply makeup. Do not rub or massage the treated areas, including beauty services like waxing or facials, for at least one week following your injections. Finally, be patient- it can take up to 2 weeks for your final results to kick in. Trust the process!
Are Botox injections painful?
Botox injections typically feel like a small pinch. The needles we use are very tiny, and the treatment takes only a few minutes. Many patients report that the procedure is painless! You will have the option to use a topical numbing cream for more sensitive areas like the lip flip or smokers lines around the mouth, but most patients choose to get their Botox treatment with no numbing because it’s so quick and comfortable!
